William DERBYSHIRE was born about 1776. On 29th November 1796 at Shirley, Derbyshire, he married Ann TITTERTON
of Rodsley in Longford Parish.
William and Ann had at least 6 children Baptised at Shirley: Mary 1800, George 1808, Fanny 1811, William 1814, Thomas 1816
and Elizabeth 1819. The gap 1800 to 1808 is probably when John was born about 1805. In 1841 William was a farmer at
Yeaveley
William died the 3rd January 1845 aged 69 and was buried at Shirley. His wife Ann died 15th August 1868 aged 93 and was
also buried at Shirley. They share a headstone.

John DERBYSHIRE was born about 1805 at Yeaveley, Derbyshire, but his Baptism has not been found, (the 1805 Bapts. are
missing from the Yeaveley Parish register and he is not in the BTs either. Nor in Longford). John was probably the son of
William DERBYSHIRE/Ann TITTERTON of Shirley.
He married Ann, the daughter of Joshua and Docey WARD on the 25th of September 1826 at North Wingfield, Derbyshire.
They had 13 children: Elizabeth I 1827, Ann 1828, John 1830, at North Wingfield; Thomas 1833, Mary 1835, William 1838,

George I 1839, Elizabeth II 1840, born at Yeaveley, Bapt. at Shirley; Hannah 1843, George II 1844, Philip 1847, Samuel 1849
and Joseph 1854, Baptised at Yeaveley.
John died at Shirley on 11th October 1867 aged 62. His wife Ann died there in 1876 aged 66.

In John’s Will, dated 21st Aug 1867, he is a higgler and salt dealer of Yeaveley in Shirley parish.

Samuel DERBYSHIRE the son of John and Ann was Bapt. June 1849 at Yeaveley, Derbyshire.
In 1861 Samuel, aged 12, and his brother George,16, were farm servants living with Samuel Fox,
a farmer of 230 acres at Hungry Bentley.
In 1871 Samuel was a footman living with Laurence Spencer, a physician in Winckley Square,
 Preston, Lancashire.
Samuel married Anne Harby NICHOLSON, the illegitimate daughter of John HARBY and Rebecca
NICHOLSON, on the 29th August 1876 at St. James, Litchurch, Derby. At that time he was a
butler and gave his address as 25 Rose Hill Street, Derby. Anne gave her occupation as
domestic servant, but it is said that she was a cook.
When son Arthur was born in 1877 Samuel was a butler living at 22 Darby Street, New Normanton,
Derby.
Daughter Elizabeth A. was born at Derby in 1879.
When daughter Agnes was born on 10th July 1880 Samuel was a shopkeeper at Shirley.
Family tradition says he had to leave his job as a butler because he was consumptive(tuberculosis).
Samuel died on 30th July 1881, aged 31, and was buried at Shirley.

                                                ***

Agnes DERBYSHIRE, the daughter of Samuel and Ann was born on 10th July 1880
and Baptised on 20th November 1880 at Shirley, Derbyshire.
In April 1881 Agnes and her sister were with her parents at Shirley but her brother Arthur
was with her aunt Lizzie LUDLUM at Retford.
After her father died in July 1881 they moved to Retford. Agnes attended the Wesleyan school
in Retford and then became a seamstress. She was reputed to be the best hand sewn button holer
in town before button holeing machines came into use.
Agnes married Harry Pashley STANDEN in 1908 at Retford.
