Early references -
The Genuki/Darlton website mentions that in 1552 there was George Gabitas, Church Warden and William Gabitas, Gentleman.
In the 1552 will of Sir Richard Basset of Fledborough there is mention of his Chaplain Sir Richard Gabitas, witness to the will.

Robert GABBITAS married Helen COSIN 5th of May 1615 at Darlton, Nottinghamshire.
Their children Bapt. at Darlton were - Jane 1618, William 1620, Thomas 1622, James 1624, Mary 1627, Anne 1628 and Katherine 16**.
Robert was buried at Darlton 15th July 1647 and left a Will dated 14th May 1646, in which he gives his occupation as carpenter
and mentions children William, Thomas, James, Katherine and wife Ellen.
An Inventory of his estate survives and household goods, crops and livestock amount to £36 - 13s - 8d.

Thomas GABBITAS, the son of Robert and Hellen, was bapt. 29th September 1622 at Darlton. Thomas and his wife Elizabeth had
9 children at Darlton - Mary 1652, Robert 1654, William 1655, Helen 1656, Elizabeth 1657, John 1660, William 1664, Thomas 1667 and Ann 1672.
Cromwell's Commonwealth was in force 1653 - 1660 and civil registrations of births (not bapts.) are recorded in the Parish Register of
Darlton for William, Helen and Elizabeth. William was bapt. 17th April 1664.

Robert GABBITAS, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth was bapt. 20th September 1654 at Darlton. Robert married Esther SCRIMSHIRE on
3rd May 1680 at Newark on Trent. Robert and Esther had 8 children bapt. at Dunham on Trent - Mary 1681, Elizabeth 1683, Richard 1684,
an unknown, Robert 16--, William 1686, Sarah 1689 and John 1690.
Esther GABBITAS was buried at Ragnall 1`3th Sept. 1720. A Robert GABBITAS was buried at Ragnall 7th January 1737.

John GABBITAS, the son of Robert and Esther was bapt. 25th January 1690 at Dunham on Trent, Nottinghamshire. John married Elizabeth HINDE on
8th August 1715 at Ragnall, Notts. John and Elizabeth had 5 children bapt. at Ragnall - John 1716, Robert 1717, William 1719,
William 1722 and Elizabeth 1723.
In the bapt. record of Robert 1717 John is entered as a cordwainer.
The Ragnall burials include - William 5th march 1722 (presumably bapt. 7 mar. 1719);
Elizabeth 25 March 1724 and Elizabeth 28 March 1724 (presumably mother and child).
John 28th July 1724 ( could be father or son).

William GABBITAS, the son of John and Elizabeth, was bapt. 20th April 1722 at Ragnall. William and his wife Jane had 4 children bapt. at
Ragnall - John 1756, Thomas 1764, Francis 1765 and Robert 1767.
In the baptism record of John in 1756 William is recorded as a soldier.
Wife Jane was buried 13th June 1812 at Ragnall.

Thomas GABBITAS, the son of William and Jane, was bapt. 12th February 1764 at Ragnall. Thomas married , firstly , Eleanor BENNET, of Ordsall,
on 27th November 1792 at Laneham, Notts. Thomas and Eleanor had 10 children. Thomas 1796 bapt. at Dunham, then John 17--, John 1799, William 1801,
Richard 1804, Edmund 1807, Joseph 1810, George 1813, Mary 1815 and Sarah 1815 bapt. at Ragnall.
Thomas's wife Eleanor was buried 22nd April 1819 at Laneham, aged 43. Thomas then married Mary BECKETT on 31st October 1819 at Laneham. Thomas and
Mary had a daughter Mary bapt. 1799 at Laneham.
Wife Eleanor was buried 22nd April 1819 at Laneham, aged 43.
Thomas was buried on 29th September 1842 at Laneham, aged 78.

William GABBITAS, the son of Thomas and Eleanor was bapt. in July 1801 at Ragnall. William married Rebekah BOOTH on 23rd March 1826 at West Drayton,
Notts. William and Rebekah had 4 children bapt. at East Markham - Thomas 1828, George 1830, (H)Ellen1833, and William 1835. Matilda 1838 and
Henry 1839 were bapt. at West Drayton.
In the 1851 Census William is a Ag. Lab. born at Ragnall.
