Robert JENNINGS married Ann PIPKIN at East Claydon on 1st October 1703. They had one daughter, Anne, baptised 15th July 1705 at East Claydon. Robert, a labourer was buried 9th Feb. 1741 at E. Claydon. His wife Ann was buried there 10th April 1740.

Anne JENNINGS, the daughter of Robert and Ann was bapt. 15th July 1705 at East Claydon. She did not marry but had 3 children: William, bapt 16th June 1731; Richard, bapt 24th Nov. 1734 and Catherine, bapt. 12th Nov. 1738. Ann was buried as a spinster 29th Nov. 1772 at East Claydon.

Richard JENNINGS, the son of Ann JENNINGS was bapt. 24th 1734 at East Claydon. Richard married Hannah TYRREL , daughter of Tobias TYRRELL and Sarah of Cottisford, Oxfordshire, on 26th April 1761 at Chetwode. Richard and Ann had 10 children: John, 1763; Richard, 1765; William, 1767; Charles’ 1769; George, 1771; Tobias, 1773; Sarah, 1776; Thomas, 1777; Ann, 1780; James, 1783.



                                            Oxfordshire

Richard JENNINGS, the son of Richard and Hannah was bapt. 9th March 1765 at East Claydon. Whilst living at Great Milton, Oxfordshire, he married Sarah HUMFREYS of Tiddington in Albury parish, Oxfordshire, on 14th July 1799 at Albury; but the Banns Register at Gt. Milton and the Banns Certificate give her surname as SHEPHERD. Richard and Sarah’s children, born at Gt. Milton, were: John, 1800; Mary, 1803; Elizabeth,1805; Maria, 1807; Miriam,1809; James,1813 and Jane, 1816. In 1841 Richard and Sarah were living at Gt. Milton. Richard was an agricultural labourer aged 75 and their granddaughter Harriott Jennings, aged 15, was living with them whilst her parents John and Sarah were in Wallingford Workhouse. Richard died in Dec. 1849 aged 84 and was buried at Gt. Milton.

John JENNINGS, the son of Richard and Sarah was christened on 25th May 1800 at Gt. Milton. He was an agricultural labourer and married Mary Ann SEYMOUR on the 1st of January 1821 at Great Milton. They moved to Brookhampton in Newington Parish and Mary Ann died in 1823 aged 22 and was buried on the 18th of January at Newington. John then married Ann SMITH, b. 1795, of Chippen Norton, at Worminghall, Buckinghamshire on 19th April 1824, and continued to live at Brookhampton. They had 4 sons: William, 1825; John, 1839; Robert, 1841 and Henry, 1844; and 4 daughters: Harriet, 1827; Eliza, 1831; Mary Ann, 1835; and Maria, 1835. On 1st of March 1841 their son Robert was baptized privately and they were still living at Brookhampton. Private (at home) baptisms were performed if it was thought the child may not survive, but Robert lived to be 73 and was buried at Aberford, Yorkshire. When the 1841 Census was taken on the 7th June John and Anne, with all their children except William, were in the Wallingford Workhouse. Son William aged 15, was with Thomas Smith, an agricultural labourer, and family at Brookhampton. Although daughter Harriett is shown as being in the Workhouse she is also shown as being with her grandparents Richard and Sarah Jennings at Gt. Milton. The period 1840-’49 was known as the ‘Hungry Forties’ because of the long period of bad harvests. When son Henry was bapt. on 19th Sept.1843 John and Anne were living at Newington. John died in 1870 aged 71 and was buried the 12th December and Ann died in Feb 1870 aged 66. They were buried at Newington.

                                                            West Yorkshire.  
John JENNINGS, the son of John and Ann, was born at Brookhampton, Oxfordshire, and bapt. 6th Jan 1839 at Newington. Some time between 1851 and 1861 he moved, with his brother Robert, from Newington to Aberford in West Yorkshire. There was a lot of agricultural unemployment at that time and many organisations, such as Trade Unions and Churches arranged for the re-location of unemployed people. John was an agricultural labourer and married Mary JOWETT, b. 1841, the daughter of John and Hannah JOWETT of Aberford on 29th Dec. 1860 at Aberford. The Jowetts lived in Main Street and John and Mary Jennings lived round the corner in Becca Lane. They had one son, William, 1862 and one daughter, Elizabeth, 1863. John’s brother Robert lodged with the Mollitt family at Lotherton cum Aberford and married their daughter Ann on 21st April 1861 at Sherburn in Elmet. Robert and Ann had one son and one grandson but no further descendants. John died at Aberford on 8th Oct 1877 aged 38. John’s wife Mary had, via her sister Sarah, a niece Amanda Priscilla Lilleker living at Swiss Cottages, Babworth, West Retford. Amanda died in 1880 leaving a widower with 5 children. In 1881 Mary was housekeeper to Robert Lilleker, a widowed coachman, at Swiss Cottages, Babworth, Nottinghamshire.

                                          Nottinghamshire.

William JENNINGS, the son of John and Mary, was born on 4th of May 1862 at Aberford. He moved to Clarborough near Retford after his father died in 1877 and worked as a gardener. He married Elizabeth PIERCY, the granddaughter of John Shadrack PIERCY, on 3 September 1885 at Clarborough Church and lived at Balk Fields, Retford. They had 3 sons: William, 1886; John Ernest, 1888 and Bernard, 1900; and 2 daughters: Gertrude Elizabeth, 1896 and Constance Mary, 1898. In 1891they lived at The Carr, Retford and later lived at Chancery Lane. William was a gardener to Dr. Clay in The Crescent and also collected 'dues' as Superintendant at the cattle market.

William JENNINGS, the son of William and Elizabeth, was born at Retford on 8 April 1886. In 1901 William was a telegraph messenger, GPO, living with his parents at 51 Chancery Lane, Retford. In August 1902 William was appionted as a Assistant Postman and in September 1904, at the age of 18, he was appointed as a Rural Postman, Retford to Lound. He married Alice VALLANCE, the daughter of farmer James VALLANCE and Mary in 1907 at Retford. They had one son, James Wilfred in 1911, but Alice died in 1932. William later married Millicent RICH and they had another son, William, born in 1936. William senior served in the army during World War I. He was a postman, covering a large rural round, first on cycle and later on the first motorcycle and sidecar at Retford post office. He was later employed as a joiner at Clark's Dyeworks. He died in 1968 aged 82.

James Wilfred JENNINGS, the son of William and Alice, was born on the 9th of June 1911 at Retford. From leaving school Wilf, as he was usually known, worked at the Northern Rubber Company in Retford. He rose from office boy to sales office manager. He married Florence Eileen STANDEN on 21st February 1933 at Retford and they had one son.
His employment was interrupted during WW2 when he served in the Royal Air Force as an aircraft engine fitter and spent 3 years in India.
Wilf died on 10th December 2011, aged 100 years.
