MONKMAN
JOHN MONKMAN was married 13th June 1710 at Wharram le street to Frances BRANSBY, b. 1687,
at Settrington, dau. Of William BRANSBY & Frances.
John and Frances had 6 children born at Wharram le Street:- John 1710, James 1712,
William 1714, Thomas 1717, Frances 1721 and Matthew 1725.
John, snr. was described as a householder when he was buried on the 18th March 1758.
His widow Frances was buried in September 1761.

Thomas MONKMAN, the son of John and Frances was Bapt. 3rd November 1717 at Wharram le Street.
He married Mary COTEHOUSE(birth not found yet) on 18th November 1740 at Langton by Malton.
Thomas and Mary had 4 children born at Langton;- Ann 1741, Thomas 1743. Mary 1745 and Robert 1747.
A Thomas MONKMAN was Church Warden at Langton in 1749.
Thomas MONKMAN snr. was buried 19th Feruary 1776 at Settrington.

Mary MONKMAN, the daughter of Thomas and Mary was Bapt. 5th November 1745 at Langton by Malton.
She married Robert PIERCY at Langton on the 12th February 1771, the witnesses being
Thomas MONKMAN and John PIERCY.
There was another Mary MONKMAN at Langton who could have been the bride of Robert PIERCY,
namely Mary Bapt. 2nd September 1742, dau. of James MONKMAN of Kennethorpe (in Langton Parish).
A third Mary MONKMAN was Bapt. 27th February 1749 at Wharram le Street dau. of John MONKMAN.
All three Marys were cousins and were granddaughters of John MONKMAN who married in 1710 at Wharram le Street.
The first above mentioned Mary is the most likely because her father and brother were the
Thomas and Thomas jnr. who witnessed the marriages of Robert PIERCY’s brothers Thomas and John at Settrington.
