There are 2 Richard PASHLEYs who may be the father of Joseph b. 1793 at Sheffield -
Richard PASHLEY marr. Susanh. PLATTS 21st Feb. 1792 at Sheffield.(source unreliable)
Richard PASHLEY marr. Elizabeth SHEPHERD 10th Dec 1792 at Sheffield Cathedral St. Peter (BTs)
Richard may have been born at Worksop.
Joseph PASHLEY, the son of Richard PASHLEY was bapt. 11th August 1793 at Sheffield St. Peter, father Richard entered as Labourer.
Joseph married Rebecca BROWN at Whitwell on 26th September 1814. At that time Joseph is entered as 'of the Parish of Blyth'. This may be during his journeyman period after an apprenticeship.
When his children were baptized at Whitwell he is described as a blacksmith.
Their children bapt. at Whitwell were William 1815, Richard 1816, Elizabeth 1819, John 1821, Samuel 1823, George 1825, Ann 1828, Phoebe 1830, Catherine 1834.
Their earlier children being Richard and Elizabeth seems to indicate that Joseph's mother was Elizabeth SHEPHERD.
In the 1851 Census Joseph is a master blacksmith, born at Sheffield, employing 2 men and his sons Richard and George are journeyman blacksmiths. Son Richard was deaf from childhood.
Joseph died at Whitwell in 1866, aged 72. Joseph's wife Rebecca died at Whitwell in 1869.
George PASHLEY, the son of Joseph and Rebecca was bapt. 12th July 1825 at Whitwell.
George married Emma HYSON on 8th August 1853 at Whitwell. Emma was the daughter of Thomas HYSON a retired coalminer.
George and Emma had one daughter, Annie, who was bapt. 1854 at Staveley.
In 1861 George was a journeyman blacksmith at Staveley and had his nephew, a journeyman blacksmith John PASHLEY, boarding with him.
By 1871 George and Emma had returned to Whitwell (after the 1866 death of father Joseph) and had 2 lodgers living with them as well as their 16 year old daughter Annie.
Presumably George had taken over his father's blacksmith business.
Emma died in 1874 and George married Anne Hannah HINDE in 1879.
In 1881 George and Ann Hannah were living at Parter's Row, Whitwell, and George's un-married brother Richard lived with them.
George died in 1888 and was buried at Whitwell on the 19th April.
Annie PASHLEY, the daughter of George and Emma was bapt. 18th August 1854 at Staveley.
Annie married Harry Henry STANDEN on 14th September 1875 at Whitwell and they later moved to Retford.
